Mary Magdalene Lorang
Team Owner
For those of you who are not familiar with me, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Mary Magdalene Lorang, and I am the owner of the Topeka RoadRunners hockey team. I became involved with the team in Santa Fe in early 2006 when I was asked about housing a player or two. I quickly fell in love with the sport, and was blown away by these young men who are working so hard to achieve their dreams of college and of playing hockey at an even higher level. When it became known to me that there was a chance this team might fold and go dormant, I followed my heart and purchased the team to give the players a chance to continue their pursuits. I believe that Junior Hockey is a tremendous program not only for the players who perform for us, but for the communities fortunate enough to have teams. The positive economic impact of Junior hockey on the cities they exist in is well-documented, but the players reach so much deeper than that. They routinely participate in community events, and enrich the lives of multitudes of people across the region, not just hockey fans.
I’d like to thank all of those people without whom this venture could not succeed. My staff, all of the housing families, the corporate sponsors, the volunteers, and most of all, the players. The community of Topeka has been warm and welcoming, and I know that bringing the team here was the right thing to do.
